People around me wonder why I listen to movie scores. They tell me how they don’t understand listening to them on a regular bases. They think that there is only one place, or time that listening to them is acceptable. To me, this is just not true, and for the most part, people are missing out on so much more.
When listening to movie scores, there is a certain intimacy
that comes along with them. It’s that intimate touch with reality that gets
opened up while your listening. Movie scores bring out the details in life; the
little things. They compose life as you go along making each moment special and
unique. They afflict emotion in daily life, and give a richer depth to the
mundane. They bring out sights, smells, and feelings of the world around you.
Music that contains lyrics is great, don’t get me wrong, I
like dancing like a madman as much as the next person. Lyrical music takes you
out of the world and into your own. But movie scores take you from your own
world, and places you deeper into reality.
But it’s always one thing to talk about it, but to
experience it is always the better way. My suggestion is to start of small.
Pick one of your favourite films, then look up the music, download your
favourite track, and place it on your iPod. Using judgment, feel the emotion
coming from that particular track, then look for that moment that matches with
the emotion. Then play that track. Once this happens, you will then experience
a whole new depth of life. You will see and feel everything around you, almost
like an awakening. This experience is best accompanied by a track that has no
lyrics, though choir is always welcome.
I know music scores aren’t for everyone, and for the most
part no one really separates the music from the movie. People think it’s just
something that is there for the movie and nothing else. The trick is to
disconnect the music, and use life as your movie. And with the endless amounts
of movie scores, no matter what your lifestyle is, there’s a track for that.
In conclusion, next time your loading up your iPod, put on a
movie score or two, and let the adventure begin. Your life is already filming
on a daily bases, so put a soundtrack to it and make it complete.
